Small Boat Sailing Scheme

The ISA's Sailing Schemes will allow you to learn and develop your sailing skills from absolute beginner to expert sailor, in the type of boat that you want to sail.  ISA certified sailing courses are available at KSC run by UL Activity Centre professional instructors.  Course booking form

Introduction to Powerboating Certificate (former level 1), duration 1 day, for people with no previous boating experience. Syllabus:    Boat preparation, Clothing, Slow speed handling, Manoeuvring at speed, Anchoring, Man Over Board, Regulations, Safety, Ropework, Towing, Weather, Navigation & pilotage.

ISA National Powerboat Certificate (former level 2)The ISA recommends this Certificate as the minimum level of training/knowledge required for anyone to drive a power boat unsupervised. In the majority of cases beginners would do this course and the Introduction to Powerboating as part of the same Two day course. The certificate can also be achieved through direct assessment by a Powerboat Instructor.           Syllabus:   Turning boat in confined space, Holding off, Coming alongside, Slow & high speed manoeuvring, Engine checks, Securing to a mooring buoy, Anchoring, Man overboard, Engines & drives, Types of Crafts and towing, Charts & tides, Weather and Safety.   Certificate: ISA National Powerboat Certificate. (on successful completion).

ISA Safety Boat Certificate    (former level 3), duration 2 days, for people who already hold National Powerboat Certificate or an equivalent certificate (old level 2, RYA level 2). Areas covered will include, towing, assistance with race management, mark laying and the provision of assistance for sailing dinghies (single handed & crewed), sail boards and canoes. The ISA recommends this certificate as the minimum level of training/knowledge required by the coxswains of boats providing safety cover at Clubs, Regattas, Coaching or courses of Instruction.   Syllabus:    Race Management (sailing boats), Rescue techniques for: sailing dinghies, windsurfers, canoes & kayaks, kitesurfers, Safety boat specifications, Incident management / medical emergencies, and Search patterns.  Certificate: ISA Safety Boat Certificate. (on successful completion).
