A New Committee for 2010.  The Club AGM was held 20th May and a new committee was elected.  The club has decided that representation from each of our dinghy sailing classes on the committee would provide vital information when planning our club activities and provide a communication link with each dinghy class at the club.    The club wishes to thank the outgoing officers and committee for their hard work in developing the club and turning it around to a growth situation in membership and sailing activity.

Flooding at the Club Nov 09. Junior Sailing kicked off Tuesday 26th May. Some of our new junior members got out for their first taste of sailing at Killaloe Sailing Club in a good westerly breeze.  A number of them have been sailing for a few years and are also involved in Iniscealtra SC.  Mirrors, Laser 1 and RS Feva took to the water under the supervision of Michael Campion.  Winds were gusty at times which resulted in a few capsizes but all in all smily faces were to be seen as all came ashore after a most enjoyable first outing.   Philip Despard and Peter Keogh were busy taking bookings for the sailing course starting on 9th May for beginners.  Looks like we could fill another course with the demand at present. Killaloe Sailing Club adopts RS Feva as a Junior Sailing Class

The Club has adopted the RS Feva as a supported class boat in the club along with the Mirror.  The Feva is an active junior sailing class boat in many clubs around the country and is proving itself to be a success since its launch back in 2000..  It is a modern boat for juniors, is very durable and easy to sail.  Ideal for sailing courses and is fun to sail and is self bailing.  We encourage children and young adults to join us in either our  Mirror or Feva classes.

Sailing Courses for beginners will be arranged as required.  Club sailing happens every Tuesday evening from April to October.   We look forward to seeing you at the club this season.

Historic end of season Dinner 2008.

On Friday 28th November 2008 members of Killaloe Sailing Club attended a lively End of Season dinner in Dolan’s Pub,  Dock Road,  Limerick.    This one was special because the Club has been growing in recent years from what was a 20 year dormant period when membership numbers were down to single figures.  There were 23 people at dinner on Friday night and many others could’nt attend.   There was a sense of occasion about the night and proceedings were opened with welcoming comments from Commodore, Peadar O Connaighle.   There was an optimistic vibe when people met and chatted about club achievements in 2008 and what might be possible and what ideas the club might use to grow membership numbers and increase sailing activity in 2009.

The Venue as always is lively with a trad music session to entertain patrons. The rugby match on TV between Munster v Sale Sharks added to the atmosphere on the night.   Later, prizes were presented to Fireball Summer Series winners  Owen Clarkin & John Bolger and to the September Series winners, Ed Lowe and Richard Fox.

2008 was a very successful season for the club with improvements to onshore facilities and good numbers out sailing on Tuesday evenings.  We are already preparing for next season with work being done to have two rescue boats in place to provide options for junior sailing.    Many thanks to Aoise Ryan for organising a great night.

KSC to utilise Sports Capital grant to upgrade Safety boats

The sports capital grant allocation of 4000 euro to the Club will go towards two new safety boats for the club.  These boats will serve as safety boats for club racing and also as support boats for teaching/coaching junior sailing in the club next season.  The financial support of our members towards recent club iniatives and in helping get junior sailing up and running is much appreciated by the committee and we hope that Junior Sailing in the Club will grow in activity and numbers participating in the years ahead.   Our juniors sail in Mirrors. We welcome more juniors with mirrors to to join us and learn to sail and have great fun sailing.

Fireball Summer Series Trophy won by ULSSC Fireballers

Winners for 2008 of this rediscovered trophy under the new club handicap system were Owen Clarkin and John Bolger from ULSSC.  Owen & John are a new pairing this season and did very well to hold off the opposition. Owen is an experienced sailor who is enjoying his Fireball. John is a newcomer but has picked it up very well over the season  Their killer blow was when they turned up on a strong wind evening when others expected racing to be cancelled to take wins in the 3 races run on the day.

Congrats and well done to Owen & John from all  involved...

Owen Clarkin is presented with the Fireball Cup by Jim Ryan  Owen Clarkin & John Bolger in action in the Fireball Cup Series.

Old Fireball Summer Series Trophy recovered

This Trophy was for a Fireball Summer Series on Lough Derg.  The background to it is not clear but if you know any more about when it was presented and who might have won it in the past please get in touch and we may well be able to fill in the details.  It was sponsored by Peter Lawless Marine.

A suggestion is that it be presented again for Fireball Summer Series.  ie. the combined results of the June Series and Sept Series using Club handicaps.  These are adjusted handicaps based on the each boats previous results in these Series.
