Killaloe Sailing Club Launches for the 2024 Season

Killaloe Sailing Club is proud to unveil its comprehensive program of activities and events for the 2024 season, catering to the interests of small boat sailing enthusiasts of all levels.
As part of the club’s commitment to fostering a vibrant sailing community, members can look forward to a diverse range of offerings, including weekly competitive racing, immersive adult training weekends, engaging summer camps for juniors, weekly coaching sessions, fun and relaxing dinghy cruises, and one-design class regional events.
The season kicks off with the highly anticipated Invitational Warmer Series, marking the beginning of a weekly line-up of racing events that will run through to mid-November, culminating with the Cooler Series. In a mixed dinghy fleet, participants will compete using a handicapping system to ensure fair competition and an exciting experience for all.
One of the highlights of the season is the prestigious GP14 Munster Championships—the first event of the GP14 Dinghy Class racing calendar—scheduled for the weekend of April 20th and 21st. Anticipating a fleet of 30 or more boats and top sailors from across the country, this event promises to showcase the rich history and competitive spirit of the GP14 class, which has been a mainstay in dinghy sailing since its inception in 1949.
For those interested in experiencing the fun and enjoyment of sailing first hand, the club will host a series of Try Sailing sessions starting on Thursday, May 2nd, providing individuals with the opportunity to explore the joys of sailing in a safe and supportive environment.
Throughout the season, members can take advantage of adult training weekends starting in May, junior week-long summer camps beginning in July, and weekly coaching sessions for both adults and juniors commencing in June.
On the cruising front, the club has planned weekend cruises to scenic destinations such as Mountshannon, Baltimore and the islands, inner Galway Bay, and Inisheer, offering members the chance to immerse themselves in the beauty of Ireland’s coastline and waterways.
The highlight of the season is the eagerly anticipated 2-day Summer Regatta, scheduled for the weekend of June 22nd and 23rd. With plenty of daylight, delicious BBQ, live music, and ample camping space, this event promises to be a memorable celebration of sailing and camaraderie.
Later in the season, the club will host the RS Southerns on September 21st and 22nd, showcasing the modern designs and thrilling racing capabilities of various RS Classes.
Thanks to the acquisition of a fourth safety boat—a RiB—last season, the club is better equipped than ever to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all sailors, while also offering enhanced day-to-day safety cover for all members.
With a variety of dinghy types available for member use, including RS Visions, RS Zests, Lasers, and GP14s, Killaloe Sailing Club welcomes new members to join the community and experience the joy of sailing first hand.
